For anyone who was not able to make it to Back to School Night, here is a video of my presentation:
Back to School Night 2021 For those of you who are new to this class, welcome to journalism! For students I already know - welcome back! For seniors - congratulations on becoming seniors - you are bound to have an exciting and eventful year! I am your teacher, Ms. Naylor, and this is our class website. Of course, we also have a Google Classroom. We actually have two. Our class is two classes in one period (beginning journalism and advanced journalism) so for first semester we have two different Google Classrooms - but just one website (this one). Assignments and announcements will be posted to the Google Classroom but some extra, helpful information will be posted here. If you look at the top you will see my other classes (10th grade English and 9th grade honors English) but this is our class page. Here are some other helpful links: Our Course Syllabus The Moor Weekly Newspaper Online The Moor Weekly Video News (YouTube) You can follow the AP Stylebook on Twitter - but they post A LOT so you might want to just visit their Twitter page every so often. Their posts are very informative. Here are some recent posts, as an example:
FYI: all of the posts after this one are old (from the 19-20 school year or earlier) so they do not apply to our class.
The last few days of school are here. There is this week, and then there are only three school days next week (Monday is a holiday and the last day of school is Thursday, May 28).
The district has said that teachers should not give finals. We only have three assignments left (the CNN 10 or Article of the Week for this week and the packet assignment 16 C. Packet 16 D is optional and will only help raise your grade - if you already have an A, for example, you do not need to turn in this assignment). You have until Thursday, May 28 at 3:00 p.m. to turn in any late work from distance learning or any late TA's from this semester. I will not grade any late work after that time, but if you need to send me an email to explain your circumstances, you can. I will for sure have your final grades done by Tuesday, June 2, but I will probably be done sooner than that. Today, I went to school and visited our classroom for one hour so I could clean up and take some things home. I miss you guys, but at least I will see many of you next year (or whenever school resumes in person). For seniors, I will be sending you a special message later. If you signed up to be in journalism next year, Sophia and I will be in contact with you sometime this summer. We are not allowed to add any new stories to our website after May 28th - so if you are working on a story, make sure to finish it up and turn it in for edits before then. Let me know (send me an email) if there is anything I can do to help you these last few weeks. I will also be available the first six weeks of summer because I am teaching Summer School from home. If you want to continue checking this website, I will keep updating it with information about school, etc. Have a good couple of weeks and a good summer! The Alhambra Source is offering, for the second year in a row, a workshop for Juniors and Seniors on how to financial literacy for college-bound students. Many of my students went last year (you can see them in the video). This year, of course, the workshop will be online. They are even giving away prizes!
This week, May 4-8, is Teacher Appreciation Week. I know I'm your teacher, so maybe it is weird for me to tell you about it, but I thought you might want to know.
If you have a moment, you might want to send an email to one (or all) of your teachers telling them that you appreciate them. I'm sure they would enjoy that, especially since we are all missing our students during distance learning! |
