For the beginning of the semester, you will be asked to choose a book to read. You can read just about any book you choose (it needs to be a book that is appropriate for school) but a novel (or biography or other book with a narrative) would work best. You must choose a book you have not read before.
Since this is an honors class, here is a list of books recommended for high school students who want to take A.P. English senior year (you have to scroll down a bit to get to the list). You can choose one of these books but you do not have to. There are several options for choosing your book:
You need to finish reading your book by Sep. 2/3. You will then have an assignment. I will ask you to complete a reading log twice a week (five total). Each log is a question that you can answer with a short paragraph. The reading log due dates are Aug. 17/18, 20/21, 24/25, 27/28, and Aug. 31/Sep. 1. Since the first reading log is due Aug. 17/18 - you will need to start reading your book this weekend. If you start reading your book and decide you do not like it, you can change books - but you will have less time to read it, so choose wisely. If you need help choosing a book, I have listed some recommendations below. You can also email me for suggestions. Keep in mind that you MAY be asked to review or recommend your book to other students in the class, possibly in a video or group meeting. Helpful Links:
