On Friday, Feb. 17 we will have a test on Act III. Here are the review notes in case you missed them or you just want to see them again:
There are three scenes in Act III. Scene One: Ferdinand and Miranda are talking. Prospero (Miranda's father) is watching them but they cannot see him. Ferdinand has to move a bunch of heavy logs and Miranda tells him to take a break, but he keeps working. She offers to do his work for him, but he refuses. This helps show Prospero that he is a good man and that Ferdinand really loves/is worthy of his daughter. For her part, Miranda is so in love that she forgets her father forbade her from telling Ferdinand her name and she does it anyway. The two decide to get married. Scene Two: Caliban tries to convince Stephano to kill Prospero. He is very persuasive, giving him many reasons why it would be a good idea: it will be easy because Prospero will be asleep, Stephano can be the king, Stephano can marry Miranda (who is very beautiful, etc. Caliban's plan has one flaw, however, which is that he thinks Propero will not have any powers if someone gets rid of his magic books. While they are talking, Ariel (who is invisible) is standing next to Trinculo and keeps shouting "Thou liest" making Stephano think Trinculo is calling him a liar. Scene Three: Ariel appears before the king (Alonso) and Gonzalo, Antonio, and Sebastian to tell them that they were brought to this island to be punished for what they did to Prospero. Alonso feels bad about his part in what happened 12 years ago. Some spirits come and set out food, but then when the men go to eat the food it disappears.
