1. Sign in (use your school email) - students.ausd.us 2. Open your email 3. Click on the little thing that looks like this: 4. Click on "more" 5. Click on "Google Classroom" 6. You need to join our class. The password is written on the board. 7. Click on the assignment (it is called something like Ocean/Australia Essay) 8. Open a Google Doc 9. BEFORE YOU START TYPING make sure to take notes on a piece of paper and/or get out the packet we have been working on in class and use it to organize your thoughts first. WHEN YOU ARE READY TO TYPE: 1. Make sure the page is big enough for you to see (150% is pretty good). 2. Title the Document your first and last name Set up your page in MLA format: 3. Make the font Times New Roman 4. Make sure the font size is 12 5. Make the page double-spaced: Click on this icon: then change it to "Double." 6. Type your header (your name, my name, the name of the class, the date). Hit enter. 7. Type "Title". Hit enter. 8. Indent (hit "tab") and type "The" 9. Go back and select the word title, then center it by hitting this icon: 10. When you think of a better title, replace the word title with an actually title (Do not use the title of the novel as your essay title. Do not use the word "Essay" in your title. Capitalize the first and last word and the important words in between. DO NOT underline your title or make it bigger or bold, etc. 11.When you are ready to start typing your essay, delete the word "The " and start typing. 12. Add your page numbers. Go to "Insert" - "Page Number" (it looks like this: Click on this one: 13. Start typing your essay. When you get to the second page, double click on the top of the page to open the header and then click in front of the number 2. Type in your last name followed by one space. Then click anywhere outside of the header to close it.
