Public television station KCET is airing educational programming for students at home. Yesterday and today, for example, they are showing the mini series of Little Women, but since I let you know too late to see the beginning, I am going to tell you about The Woman in White. This is another mini series based on a book. I saw the (pretty terrible) Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on this book on Broadway. This is not a musical version, however. I have not seen this production yet but I know it is based on the 1858 novel by Wilkie Collins which is considered to be one of the first mystery/detective novels. If you want to pass some time while we wait for distance learning to begin, this could be interesting. Here is a trailer: The TV series (made by the BBC in 2018) airs in five parts: Episode 1: Wednesday 3/18 at 10:00 a.m. Episode 2: Thursday 3/19 at 9:00 a.m. Episode 3: Thursday 3/19 at 10:00 a.m. Episode 4: Friday 3/20 at 9:00 a.m. Episode 5: Friday 3/20 at 10:00 a.m. If the star, Jessie Buckley, looks familiar it's because she played Miranda in the Globe Theatre production of The Tempest that we watched a few scenes from in class! Opera!Bonus: If you have ever wanted to give Opera a try, now is your chance. The Metropolitan Opera is going to stream several operas for free! Tonight they are showing Puccini’s La Bohème (which was basically the Rent of 1896). This is probably my favorite opera and is a great choice for beginners if you have never seen one before.
