Public television station KCET is airing educational programming for students at home. Yesterday and today, for example, they are showing the mini series of Little Women, but since I let you know too late to see the beginning, I am going to tell you about The Woman in White. This is another mini series based on a book. I saw the (pretty terrible) Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on this book on Broadway. This is not a musical version, however. I have not seen this production yet but I know it is based on the 1858 novel by Wilkie Collins which is considered to be one of the first mystery/detective novels. If you want to pass some time while we wait for distance learning to begin, this could be interesting. Here is a trailer: The TV series (made by the BBC in 2018) airs in five parts: Episode 1: Wednesday 3/18 at 10:00 a.m. Episode 2: Thursday 3/19 at 9:00 a.m. Episode 3: Thursday 3/19 at 10:00 a.m. Episode 4: Friday 3/20 at 9:00 a.m. Episode 5: Friday 3/20 at 10:00 a.m. If the star, Jessie Buckley, looks familiar it's because she played Miranda in the Globe Theatre production of The Tempest that we watched a few scenes from in class! Opera!Bonus: If you have ever wanted to give Opera a try, now is your chance. The Metropolitan Opera is going to stream several operas for free! Tonight they are showing Puccini’s La Bohème (which was basically the Rent of 1896). This is probably my favorite opera and is a great choice for beginners if you have never seen one before. Check out this article for more information:

You can self-edit your essay using the checklist below. Prompt: After writing your essay, complete this checklist. If you answer “no” to any of the questions, go back and edit your essay until you can answer “yes.”
The L.A. County library announced yesterday that libraries will be closed March 15-March 31. But that does not mean you cannot still access the library's massive collection of digital resources! Everyone with a library card and pin number (the same library card you would use at the Alhambra city library, for example) can access eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies and TV shows and more for free! They even offer tutoring online!
Update: L.A. County Libraries now offer a free digital library card you can get if you do not already have a card. For more free audiobooks, see my other post about Audible! If you are looking for something fun and educational to do while waiting for distance learning to begin, why not try watching some movies that are based on books? Below are some examples from various streaming services. Don't have any streaming services? If you have an L.A. County library card you can watch movies for free on the Kanopy or Hoopla apps!
Of course, there are many more films based on books, but these are the ones I looked up on the JustWatch app that are actually streaming now.
If you have a film you would like me to add to the list, please check to see that it is streaming first with the JustWatch app and that it is rated PG-13 or lower then send me an email. Thanks! Here is some information you might find helpful while we read Shakespeare's The Tempest:
